Detailed Description

When homozygous clones are made no gross defects in axon guidance are seen in the mushroom body, however a block on axon pruning during metamorphosis is seen. As a consequence of this phenotype mutant γ neurons also maintain their dorsal projections. A reduction is also seen of cell numbers in neuroblast clones. Mutant clones show an age-dependant loss of cell number and axon projections.

Homozygous embryos develop and hatch normally, but during the first and second instar, the larvae become immobile and sluggish and die without any observable defects.

Unlike either single heterozygote, nurse cells in CSN4k08018; Rpn6k00103 or CSN5L4032; Rpn6k00103 transheterozygous females exhibit ectopic apoptosis, incorrect numbers of mitotic divisions and fusions of neighbouring egg chambers.

After six generations of outcrossing the lethality continued to segragate with the P{lacW} insertion.

Precise excision of the P{lacW} element can revert the lethal phenotype.
