Expressing mbtUAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev in an mbtP1/mbtP1 background leads to the formation of a significant proportion of elongated CadN-immunopositive adherens junctions between photoreceptor precursor cells R3 and R4 in row 5 ommatidia of wandering third instar larvae.

The eyes of mbtScer\UAS.cMa; Scer\GAL4elav.PLu adults are normal sized and have only minor defects: a few bristles are missing; a few ommatidia are misshapen. Differentiation of photoreceptor cells and F-actin organization in the eye discs of these animals appears normal - although many eye discs bulge abnormally around the equator. Only subtle defects are visible at mid-pupal stages - occasional extra cone cells, misplaced bristles and misplaced adherens junctions.

Expressing mbtUAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev partially rescues the shortened adherens junction phenotype between photoreceptor precursor cells R3 and R4 in row 5 ommatidia of mbtP1/mbtP1 wandering third instar larvae. Adherens junctions have variable lengths from slightly shorter to wild-type to lengthened.

mbtScer\UAS.cMa driven by Scer\GAL4238Y rescues the eye and eye disc phenotypes seen in mbtP1 mutants.
