Light responses are normal in sktlΔ20/+ flies.

Photoreceptors appear normal in sktlΔ1-1/sktlΔ20 animals.

Homozygous female germline clones arrest oogenesis at stage 4.

sktlΔ1-1/sktlΔ20 adults do not show photoreceptor degeneration (assayed to 72 hours after eclosion).

When homozygous mutant somatic clones are made in the head, almost no bristle phenotype is seen.

Lethality acts in the late embryonic stages. Mutants show no gross morphological abnormalities. No nervous system defects are visible by stage 16.
