Embryos show severe defects in the dorsolateral spreading of the invaginated mesoderm. All eve-positive mesodermal cells are missing. Most of the dorsal somatic muscles, cardial and pericardial cells fail to form. Large gaps are seen in the visceral mesoderm. Numerous primary and secondary tracheal branches are missing in homozygous embryos and the extension of those that do form is frequently stalled.

This phenotype is dominantly suppressed by stumpsYY202. Ras85DG13Q.Scer\UAS partially rescues the stumpsYY202 phenotype when expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4twi.PG. htlScer\UAS.T:λ\cI-DD does not rescue the mesodermal phenotype of stumpsYY202 embryos when expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4twi.PG. btlH82Δ3 dominantly enhances the homozygous stumpsYY202 tracheal phenotype. stumpsYY202 dominantly enhances the homozygous btlH82Δ3 tracheal phenotype. Strongly suppresses the tracheal phenotype caused by expression of bnlScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL469B in embryos. The lack of eve-positive mesodermal cells seen in stumpsYY202 embryos is partially rescued by btl::EgfrScer\UAS.T:λ\cI-DD expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4twi.PG.
