Homozygotes die throughout development. Most animals fail to hatch and none of the surviving larvae live to puparium formation. The formation of melanotic tumours and fat body disaggregation is identical to that seen in krzS047819 animals. Tumours form throughout the body cavity but most frequently collect in the posterior of the larva. Tumours are frequently found floating free in the haemocoel.
Lethality acts in the second larval instar.
krz[+]/krzS095214 is an enhancer of visible | recessive phenotype of dxS1M
krzS095214 is an enhancer of partially lethal - majority die phenotype of NAx-9/NAx-E2, dxENU/dx[+]
krz[+]/krzS095214 is an enhancer of wing margin phenotype of dxS1M
krz[+]/krzS095214 is an enhancer of wing vein phenotype of dxS1M
The notching and vein thickening phenotypes seen in dxS1M hemizygous males are enhanced by krzS095214/+. Survival of NAx-9/NAx-E2 dxENU/+ flies to adulthood is significantly decreased by krzS095214/+.
krzS095214 is rescued by krz+t12
Lethality is rescued by krz+t12.
It is possible that an undetected second site mutation at the krz locus and not the P{lacW}krzS095214 insertion (which maps approximately 60kb upstream of the krz locus) disrupts the expression of krz. However, no polymorphisms have been detected by restriction analysis within a 12kb SphI fragment that includes both mod and krz, and no sequence changes in approximately 4.5kb of the krz gene and promoter region have been detected in krzS095214 mutants.
