Homozygous rept35 larvae hatch at normal rates, showing that the zygotic product is not essential for embryogenesis. The mutant larvae live for up to 7 days but grow only minimally in size. Clones of rept35 cells located within phenotypically wild-type wing imaginal discs grow poorly, indicating that the observed defects are cell-autonomous. Only a few small rept35 clones survive at 72 hours after induction of the clones, with none observed after 120 hours, suggesting cell competition. In contrast, when the cells surrounding the rept35 clones are are growth impaired, the mutant clones thrive even at 120 hours after induction.
Mutant animals die at first instar larval stage.
brm2, rept35/rept[+] has visible | dominant phenotype, suppressible by reptUAS.cDa/Scer\GAL4arm.PS
pont5.1, rept35 has lethal | larval stage phenotype
brm2, rept35/rept[+] has wing phenotype, suppressible by reptUAS.cDa/Scer\GAL4arm.PS
rept35 is an enhancer of wing margin bristle | ectopic phenotype of Scer\GAL4en-e16E, armUAS.cSa
rept35 is a suppressor of wing margin phenotype of Scer\GAL4en-e16E, shgi.UAS.Tag:SS(aos),Tag:MYC
The low-penetrance "held-out" wing phenotype of brm2/+ adults is suppressed in a rept35/+ background. Held-out wings are observed in 0.6% of double-heterozygous animals compared to 1.4% in brm2/+ mutants. Co-expression of reptScer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PS in brm2/rept35 animals completely rescues the wing phenotype.
Triple-heterozygous brm2, pont5.1, and rept35 mutant adults have a "held-out" wing phenotype at a low penetrance (2.1%), quite similar to the penetrance observed in brm2/+ animals.
