unkex24, Rheb2D1 mutant eye clones display wild-type differentiation of the R1/6 photoreceptor cells, indicating unk suppresses the strong delay in differentiation exhibited in Rheb mutant clones. In the adult eye, the elliptical and split rhabdomere phenotype seen in unkex24 clones is suppressed in unkex24, Rheb2D1 mutant clones. However, these double mutant clones contain mis-rotated ommatidia and missing photoreceptors.

Rheb2D1 mutant clones in a Rbf120a mutant eye disc exhibit a decrease in apoptosis at the morphogenetic furrow compared to neighboring Rbf120a cells. The ectopic cell death observed in Rbf120a Tsc1R453X double mutant cells is completely suppressed in Rheb2D1 mutant clones.

The small rough eye phenotype see in flies with Rheb2D1 somatic clones throughout the eye disc generated using Scer\FLP1ey.PN and Scer\FRT, is largely suppressed by Pten117/Pten117, but is unaffected by Tsc12G3/Tsc12G3. Rheb2D1/Rheb7A1 suppresses the pupal lethality due to Tsc12X1/Tsc11A2. The resulting animals are smaller than doubly heterozygous controls (Tsc12X1 Rheb2D1/+) at both pupal and adult stages.
