C1GalTAEY13370/C1GalTA2.1 and C1GalTAEY13370/Df(2L)Exel7040 mutant larvae exhibit partial loss of the basement membrane, along with mislocalized neuromuscular junction boutons at the muscle 6/7 boundary, but no difference in the overall number of NMJ boutons, as compared to controls.

NMJs in C1GalTAEY13370/C1GalTA2.1 mutant larvae exhibit increased numbers of endocytic vesicles, increased thickness of subsynaptic reticulum per bouton area, decreased subsynaptic reticulum density, and decreased postsynaptic density length, but no significant difference in the number of synaptic vesicles, postsynaptic densities per bouton, or postsynaptic depth, as compared to wild type. Muscle fibers in C1GalTAEY13370/C1GalTA2.1 mutant larvae exhibit ectopic vacuole-like structures around the nucleus in myofibrils, and defective sarcomere structure, duplicate basement membranes, and increased basement membrane thickness, as compared to controls.

In contrast to wild type, mature plasmatocytes are found in the secondary lobes of C1GalTAEY13370 mutant larval lymph glands.

The number of crystal cells is dramatically increased in the lymph glands of C1GalTAEY13370 mutant larvae, and unlike in wild type some are found in the secondary lobe.

Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are absent from the lymph glands of C1GalTAEY13370 mutant larvae.

A similar number of posterior signaling center (PSC) cells is found in the posterior-medial region of C1GalTAEY13370 mutant lymph glands as in wild type larvae, but they are more densely packed in a narrow region of the lymph gland than in controls. The length of their filopodial extensions is greatly reduced compared with wild type larvae, although the number of protrusions from PSC cells is similar.

The lymph glands of C1GalTAEY13370 mutant larvae exhibit morphological defects: in contrast to wild type lymph glands, which appear thin and flattened, the C1GalTAEY13370 mutant lymph glands are thick and have a rounded, smooth surface due to deposition of material from blood cells.

The hemolymph in C1GalTAEY13370 mutant larvae appears to be more viscous than that of wild type larvae.

Some homozygotes die during development. Homozygous adult escapers have abnormal legs.

Mutant larvae have a reduced number of circulating plasmatocytes compared to control larvae.
