ScerGAL4NP1017 drives expression in 3 uniglomerular antennal lobe projection neurons. Two cell bodies are positioned in the anterior-dorsal and one in the lateral part of the antennal lobe and they either project to glomerulus VM2 or VP1.
ScerGAL4NP1017 labels many neurons in the adult brain. In the subesophageal ganglion, these include the projections of the water-sensitive gustatory receptor neurons from the taste bristles of the proboscis (1 neuron labeled per bristle) and of the carbon dioxide-sensitive labellar taste pegs. Most taste bristles labeled with ScerGAL4NP1017 co-express ScerGAL4ppk28.PC, which labels the water-sensing neurons.
ScerGAL4NP1017 drives expression in a subset of gustatory receptor neurons with cell bodies in lateral labellar sensilla. These project to the anteriormost region of the anterior maxillary sensory center (AMS1) and the PMS4 and PMS5 regions of the posterior maxillary sensory center. The projection pattern overlaps with the expression of the sugar-responsive marker AvicGFPGr5a.3x.IRES.2x.
