The expression of NachJF02566 suppresses the increased number of mitotic cells in the adult posterior midgut exhibited by bftΔ263a/bftΔ263a-G4 transheterozygotes (expression under the control of Scer\GAL4bft-Δ263a-G4, the inherent Gal4 driver in the bftΔ263a-G4 alele, where it replaces the bft hairpin sequence) or bftΔ263a homozygotes (expression under the control of Scer\GAL4Myo31DF-NP0001); expression under the control of Scer\GAL4bft-Δ263a-G4 also suppresses the overall increase in the gut pH and the decreased thickness of the adult posterior midgut peritrophic matrix of bftΔ263a/bftΔ263a-G4 heterozygotes, even leading to its significant increase in thickness as compared to wild-type controls.
