Homozygous males have a significantly reduced courtship index compared to controls.

Homozygous flies are more sensitive to starvation-desiccation and to iron toxicity (treated with FeSO[[4]]) than wild-type controls.

Homozygotes show reduced energy stores (lipids and carbohydrates) under non-starvation conditions compared to control flies. The mutant flies show rapid depletion of nutrient stores (lipids and carbohydrates) upon wet starvation compared to control flies.

Homozygotes are significantly more sensitive to dry starvation than wild-type controls.

Homozygotes show increased sensitivity to paraquat compared to controls.

Homozygotes are short lived compared to controls.

The photoreceptor degeneration observed in adult flies bearing ey>flip whole-eye clones mutant for sicilyE is improved by NLazNW5 heterozygosity.

The increased tolerance of animals expressing hepScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4ppl.PP to paraquat is abolished by NLazNW5/NLazNW5, with the double mutant flies showing the same sensitivity to paraquat as NLazNW5/NLazNW5 single mutants.
