Animals expressing StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of either Scer\GAL4da.G32 or Scer\GAL4e22c do not survive beyond the early third instar larval stage.

Expression of StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH results in eyes that are significantly smaller than normal, with abnormally shaped ommatidia. The facets have a square configuration with bristles at each corner, instead of the wild-type hexagonal lattice with bristles at alternating corners. Some of the mutant vertices have duplicated bristles. Each ommatidial unit contains a normal number and orientation of photoreceptors.

Expression of StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, Scer\GAL4sca.PU or Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 has no effect on eye size, but results in loss of interommatidial bristles, resulting in a "shaven" phenotype. Flies expressing StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF or Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 also have a mild rough eye phenotype.

Expression of StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237, Scer\GAL4sca.PU or Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 results in misoriented and twin-shafted mechanosensory bristles, with microchaetae being most affected.

Expression of StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E results in notching at the posterior wing margin.

Expression of StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of either Scer\GAL4sd-SG29.1 or Scer\GAL432B results in notching of both the anterior and posterior wing margins, while the distal wing tip is unaffected. Ectopic veins are also seen.

Expression of StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 results in smaller wings than normal. The wings are blistered, due to uneven growth of the dorsal and ventral compartments and the distal end of wing vein 5 is lost. Higher levels of expression of StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 (increased temperature or copy number of the transgene) result in a further reduction in wing size, loss of some mechanosensory bristles along the wing margin, multiple wing hairs and duplication of campaniform sensilla on the wing.

Wing discs expressing StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 show an increased rate of apoptosis compared to controls.

Expression of two copies of StimScer\UAS.cEa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca.PU results in duplication of wing margin bristles.

Co-expression of StimScer\UAS.cEa rescues the thickened wing vein phenotype caused by expression of StimdsRNA.cEa.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E.
