The expression of Rac1Scer\UAS.cWa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU at 18[o]C leads to a relatively minor decrease in adult eye size, as compared to controls.

Ectopic expression of Rac1Scer\UAS.cWa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PFa does not disrupt patterning of the ommatidial precursor clusters in the third instar larval eye disc compared to controls. Expression under the control of the Scer\GAL4GMR.long driver leads to 'rough eye' phenotype in adults.

The expression of Rac1Scer\UAS.cWa in combination with RhoGEF3UAS.EKN.sfGFP, but not RhoGEF3KAA.UAS.sfGFP, under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU leads to a fully penetrant pharate lethality. Co-expression with RhoGEF3UAS.EKN.sfGFP is associated with a very strong eye defect (residual eye) as compared to controls, whereas co-expression with RhoGEF3KAA.UAS.sfGFP leads to a moderate decrease in adult eye size, which is more severe than upon the Scer\GAL4GMR.PU-driven expression of Rac1Scer\UAS.cWa alone.

Co-expression of egrScer\UAS.cMa and Rac1Scer\UAS.cWa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PFa leads to pupal stage lethality and perturbed patterning of the third instar larval eye disc is observed: the regular spacing of ommatidial precursor clusters (visualized by Chaoptin) is completely disrupted with some R-cells shifted to the optic stalk. Co-expression under the control of the Scer\GAL4GMR.long driver allows survival to adult stage but the malformed adult eye phenotype observed in flies expressing either egrScer\UAS.cMa (small 'rough eye') or Rac1Scer\UAS.cWa ('rough eye') alone is strongly enhanced, resulting in a 'no eye' phenotype.
