Expression of Nlg2Scer\UAS.cSa postsynaptically, under the control of either Scer\GAL4C57 or Scer\GAL4how-24B, results in a reduction in bouton number at the neuromuscular junction in third instar larvae.

Expression of Nlg2Scer\UAS.cSa presynaptically, under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU, has no effect on bouton number at the third larval instar neuromuscular junction.

Expression of Nlg2Scer\UAS.cSa in both neurons and muscles, under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL, results in an increase in bouton number at the neuromuscular junction in third instar larvae.

Comments

Expression of Nlg2Scer\UAS.cSa postsynaptically, under the control of either Scer\GAL4C57 or Scer\GAL4how-24B, does not rescue the reduction in bouton number seen at the neuromuscular junction in Nlg2CL2 third instar larvae. Expression of Nlg2Scer\UAS.cSa presynaptically, under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU, also fails to rescue this defect. However, expression of Nlg2Scer\UAS.cSa in both neurons and muscles, under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL, restores bouton number at the neuromuscular junction in Nlg2CL2 third instar larvae to wild-type levels.

Expression of Nlg2Scer\UAS.cSa postsynaptically, under the control of either Scer\GAL4C57 or Scer\GAL4how-24B, does not rescue the reduction in bouton number seen at the neuromuscular junction in Nlg2KO70 third instar larvae. However, expression of Nlg2Scer\UAS.cSa in both neurons and muscles, under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL, restores bouton number at the neuromuscular junction in Nlg2KO70 third instar larvae to wild-type levels.

Expression of Nlg2Scer\UAS.cSa under the control of either Scer\GAL4how-24B or Scer\GAL4elav.PU does not rescue the reduced EJP amplitude seen at the neuromuscular junction in Nlg2CL2 and Nlg2KO70 third instar larvae. Expression under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL rescues the EJP amplitude to wild type.

Co-expression of neuroliginScer\UAS.cSa by either Scer\GAL4how-24B or Scer\GAL4C57 rescues the bouton number and synaptic arborization deficits found upon expression of neuroliginGD962.
