Blockade of all &agr';β' Kenyon cells (by expressing the temperature sensitive shits.UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4VT057244 and shifted to the permissive 33[o]C) decreases olfactory medium term memory (1h) when experiment is carried out in crowded conditions (groups of 32 flies - socially facilitated memory).
Inhibition (using shits1.IVS.p10.20xUAS at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4VT057244 cells in adults during consolidation alone, or acquisition and consolidation, but not acquisition or retrieval alone, significantly reduces 24-hour associative olfactory water-reward memory, compared to controls; inhibition has no effect on water preference, compared to controls.
Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 31[o]C) of Scer\GAL4VT057244 cells in adults during testing only significantly reduces 3-hour aversive olfactory anaesthesia-resistant memory, compared to controls, with no effect on odor or shock avoidance.
