The expression of lzScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 does not significantly affect the number or size of third instar larval circulating crystal cells.

Expression of lzScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4Hml.Δ has no effect on third instar larval hemocyte numbers.

Ectopic expression of lzScer\UAS.cBa, under the control of Scer\GAL4srp.D.cCa in all of the prohemocytes, in a Df(2L)200 mutant background (which removes gcm and gcm2) results in almost all of the hemocytes remaining around the proventriculus. These hemocytes morphologically resemble differentiated crystal cells.

The eyes of flies expressing lzScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 appear wild type. When lzScer\UAS.cBa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, eyes are mildly rough.

When lzScer\UAS.cBa is driven by Scer\GAL4twi.PB supernumerary crystal cells are seen that persist during embryogenesis. When lzScer\UAS.cBa is driven by Scer\GAL4twi.PB an increased number of crystal cells are seen in the lymph glands.

In lzScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4svr-PG33 embryos, plasmatocytes express various crystal cell markers, but retain plasmatocyte morphology and marker expression. Crystal cell marker expression is not induced in non-hemocytes in lzScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4da.G32 embryos. Crystal cell marker expression is increased in lzScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4twi.PG embryos, but the extent of its expression within the mesoderm is limited. Crystal cell differentiation is normal in lzScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 embryos.

Expression of lzScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG results in embryos with a dorsal closure defect or "tail-up" phenotype.

The expression of lzScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 suppresses the increased number and size of circulating crystal cells observed in DnaJ-1A/DnaJ-1C transheterozygous or MlfΔC1 homozygous third instar larvae.

Expression of lzScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4 suppresses not only the drop in crystal cell number in MlfΔ5-3 mutant embryos, but also the rise in crystal cell number in MlfΔ5-3 larvae.

Expression of both lzScer\UAS.cBa and srpNC.F.Scer\UAS when driven by Scer\GAL4twi.PB enhances the ectopic crystal cell phenotype. Expression of both lzScer\UAS.cBa and srpNC.F.Scer\UAS when driven by Scer\GAL4e33C enhances the ectopic crystal cell phenotype.

The increased expression of crystal cell markers in lzScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4twi.PG embryos is enhanced and spreads throughout the mesoderm when srpNC.Scer\UAS is present. This effect is not seen with srpC.Scer\UAS. Expression of crystal cell markers (ectopic and endogenous) in lzScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4twi.PG embryos, is suppressed by srp2/srp2 or srp3/srp3.
