M(2)56FH heterozygotes present a Minute phenotype, which includes a developmental delay and minute bristle phenotype, as compared to controls. M(2)56FH heterozygous larval wing discs present increased cell death, as compared to controls.

Apoptosis occurs in at the interface of wild type and M(2)56FH/+ cells in M(2)56FH/+ wing discs in which wild type clones have been induced.

When +/+ clones are induced in a M(2)56FH/+ background and cell death is analysed, apoptotic cells are largely restricted to boundaries between wild-type and M(2)56FH/+ cell populations and the apoptotic cells are almost always M(2)56FH/+. When +/+ clones are induced in a M(2)56FH/+ background in the wing disc, dying cells are seen throughout the apical-basal axis of the epithelium, but are more often basal. Apoptotic material is sometimes present within neighbouring, wild-type epithelial cells, indicating that some of the apoptotic cells are cleared by engulfment into neighbouring cells.

M(2)56iunspecified does not show a dominant rough eye phenotype.

    Statement
    Reference

The minute phenotype observed in M(2)56FH heterozygotes (i.e. developmental delay and minute bristles) is not suppressed by RpS12G97D heterozygosity or RpS12G97D/RpS12s2783 transheterozygosity.

In M(2)56FH-heterozygous larval wing discs, otherwise wild-type clones are outcompeted by neighboring RpS12G97D-homozygous clones, severely outcompete neighboring clones either bearing two copies of RpS12+t2 or expressing RpS12Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PP, and do not compete with neighboring clones either bearing two copies of RpS12G97D.2kb or expressing RpS12G97D.Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PP. The increased cell death observed in M(2)56FH-heterozygous larval wing discs is enhanced within clones bearing two copies of RpS12+t2, but not in clones bearing two copies of RpS12G97D.2kb; this enhancement is only observed near the clone boundary.

M(2)56FH, RpS12s2783 double heterozygous larval wing disc cells outcompete M(2)56FH single heterozygous cells, as the single heterozygous clones are rarely recovered within the double heterozygous background.

The apoptosis that occurs at the interface of wild type and M(2)56FH/+ cells in M(2)56FH/+ wing discs in which wild type clones have been induced is not significantly lowered in discs that are also mutant for either p5311-1B-1/p535A-1-4 or homozygous for DreddB118.
