DefSK3 enhances the tumor phenotype while suppressing the associated apoptosis (Dcp1 staining) of dlg1A40.2 wing discs, but does not affect the cell division rate; the additional expression of DefUAS.cTa under the control of Scer\GAL4apolpp.PB (in the DefSK3, dlg1A40.2 background) partially re-establishes the original phenotypes of dlg1A40.2.

Injecting synthetic Defensin protein into DefSK3, dlg1A40.2 double mutant larvae partially re-establishes the increased apoptosis observed in dlg1A40.2 larvae.
