d¹ adults have shortened wings; this phenotype is most evident in the centre of the wing due to the reduced distance between the crossveins. Counting hairs between these crossveins shows that there is a reduction in cell number as well as the decrease in length.

d¹/d²¹⁰ and d¹/Df(2L)N22-5 adult wings show ectopic crossveins but lack the anterior crossvein. d¹/d^GC13 animals also show extra or missing crossveins.

d¹ adults have shortened legs, but do not show the leg disc eversion phenotype that stronger d alleles show.

d¹ clones generated in the wing are of a normal size and shape.
