Mutant animals have ectopic dorsocentral bristles, often situated anterior to the wild-type anterior dorsocentral (aDC) bristle. The majority of ectopic macrochaetes anterior to and aligned with the aDC display projection patterns like that of the wild-type aDC.

emc11 animals have a higher density of notal microchaetae, however these bristles still approximately align into rows as seen in wild-type.

emc1/emc11 flies have slightly smaller wings than normal, although the wing vein pattern is normal.

The posterior scutellar bristle is displaced from its normal position in homozygous, emc2/emc11 and emcE12/emc11 flies. Most sensory mother cells emerge earlier in homozygous or emc11/emc2 wing discs compared to wild-type, although the precursor of the posterior scutellar bristle appears later than normal. emcE12/emc11 neurA101 larvae have very low viability.

emc11/emcE12 discs show an increased level of sc protein, clusters are similar to wild type though some are slightly enlarged. Strongly labelled nuclei are present scattered over the presumptive notum, they correspond to precursors of ectopic emc bristles.

Variations in chaetae number and size: ectopic macrochaetae and mesochaetae appear as a second and third posterior row, microchaetae smaller than wild type differentiate posteriorly to the macrochaetae.

ac and sc protein patterns are subtly altered in the wing disc. Novel sites of ac and sc expression in the notal region that later coincide with ectopic sensory organs.

Extra chaetae form in characteristic patterns.

No modification in the ac/sc patterns of expression in the wing disc.

The average number of ectopic macrochaetae per heminotum in amosTft/+ flies is increased to 35 +/- 6 if they are also carrying emc1/emc11.

emc1/emc11 suppresses the loss of wing vein L4 seen in vn1/vnddd-3 flies or Egfrt1/Egfrf37 flies. The interactions between emc1/emc11 and rhove-1/rhove-1 or rhove-1/rho9 are additive. The ectopic wing vein phenotype of EgfrE3/+ flies is slightly enhanced by emc1/emc11. The ectopic wing vein phenotype of rhoStg/rhoWk flies is slightly enhanced by emc1/emc11. The extra wing vein phenotype of px72 homozygotes is enhanced by emc1/emc11. net1/+ ; emc1/emc11 flies show an extra wing vein phenotype. The extra wing vein phenotype of bs2 homozygotes is enhanced by emc1/emc11. bs03267/+ ; emc1/emc11 flies show an extra wing vein phenotype.

acHw-49c/+ ; emc11/Df(3L)emc-E12 wing discs have many ectopic sensory organ mother cells, mostly in the presumptive notum and dorsal wing blade and base.
