Large homozygous eye clones (generated in a Minute background) exhibit a robust rough and glossy appearance, together with tissue necrosis of variable onset and penetrance.
opa1-likes3475 mitotic clones in the male germline (i.e. mutant spermatids) exhibit irregularly-shaped nebenkerns, composed of many individual mitochondria that have coalesced beside the nucleus, but have failed to fuse.

Expression of opa1-likes3475 significantly suppresses the increase in mitochondria length seen when Hsap\MAPTR406W.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU. The increased neurotoxicity is also significantly rescued.
