Mutation created by the insertion of a 412 retrotransposon into the 5' untranslated region of the first exon.

Identical insertion of 7.5kb 412 into first exon of 83 nucleotides.

Insertion of a 412 element between base pairs 1150 and 1151, 36bp downstream of the major transcription start site, and 21bp upstream of the translation start site. The direction of transcription of the 412 element is opposite to the direction of v transcription.

21-days old v1 mutant adults raised at 29[o]C do not show significantly changes in PPL1 neurons, as compared to age-matched controls.

v1 adult heterozygotes as well as homozygotes display significantly slower heartbeat across temperatures ranging from 20[o]C to 37[o]C and the average heartbeat action across temperatures of v1 mutant prepupae is more rhythmic compared to wild-type controls. The number of inter-beat intervals lasting more than 1 sec is not significantly different between v1 mutants of either sex and the controls, although genetic background plays a significant role as v1 mutant males from a line that hasn't been outcrossed show highly increased count of these heart stoppages.

The heartbeat of v1/Df(1)v-L15 males is significantly more rhythmic relative to control males at 37[o]C and also on average across temperatures.

Ocelli are unpigmented. v1 blocks the pigmentation of rc2 flies.

Trace amounts of wild type sized transcripts present in mutants (Searles et al., 1990).

vermilion eyes.

v1 eye discs develop wild-type pigmentation when transplanted into wild-type larvae.

Non-autonomous in v+//v1 gynandromorphs.

The glycerol hypersensitivity of flies expressing GykdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4c564 (seen as a reduction in survival on a glycerol only food source) is enhanced if the flies are also heterozygous for v1.

Eye colour: orange when homozygous with wcf2, in both males and females.
