Mis-expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP in clones of cells in the retina under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL prevents normal photoreceptor differentiation.

Expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4Dll-md23 disrupts distal leg patterning, resulting in a truncated leg.

Expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP, under the control of Scer\GAL4hth-GETDB, results in a large reduction in the sizes of the eyes and head. 16% of these flies have nothing left of the head except a proboscis. Scer\GAL4hth-GETDB>hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP flies with a head frequently have ectopic antennae. Additionally, these flies often have no wing blades (25%) and no halteres (79%).

Flies coexpressing hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP and hthHM.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP, both under the control of Scer\GAL4hth-GETDB, show a significant reversion of the phenotypes observed when each is expressed individually.

Expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 reduces the wing to a rudiment. The resulting winglet has three types of tissue on the dorsal surface; an apparent extension of distal hinge tissue that is similar to the radius (by the density and size of the trichomes), an unpigmented transparent cuticle that may be sclerital tissue and a small amount of dorsal/ventral boundary tissue. Expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4vg.int2.1 reduces the wing to a rudiment and formation of the wing margin is suppressed. Expansion of hinge-like tissue is not seen, with the winglets maintaining their wing blade identity, and the hinge region appears largely intact in these wings. The mesonotum region is of normal size in wing discs expressing hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4vg.int2.1, but the wing pouch is very small.

Somatic clones over-expressing hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP in the head (driven by Scer\GAL4Act5C.PP) causes splitting of the eye by tissue resembling ventral head capsule. Small clones in the morphogenetic furrow of the developing eye do not allow photoreceptor differentiation. Clones induced just anterior to the furrow delays furrow propagation. The furrow is able to advance over them, neverless the furrow is retarded and the hth+ cells posterior to it do not differentiate as photoreceptors.

Expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4Dll-md23 results in leg truncations. Expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4ptc-559.1 results in split wings and suppresses eye development. Expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 suppresses eye development. Expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 results in a transformation of tergites 5 and 6 into a more anterior, lightly pigmented identity in males.

Scer\GAL4Dll-md23-mediated expression causes truncated T2 legs.

Expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU in l(2)gl4 mutant wing disc mutant clones results in overproliferation and neoplastic transformation in the proximal domain. Clones in the distal domain are mostly eliminated.

Expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU induces neoplastic transformation in l(2)gl4 mutant eye disc clones.

Ectopic expression of hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP in clones of cells in the retina under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL is still able to inhibit photoreceptor differentiation in Chi45F mutant cells.

Clones of cells in the eye disc expressing both hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP and tshScer\UAS.cGa under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PZ grow well in the middle of the disc and can induce large outgrowths at the edge of the disc.

Expression of both DllScer\UAS.cBa and hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 results in the formation of ectopic antennal structures in the leg (in 19% of animals), such as transformation of one of the tarsal claws to arista. Extra antennal tissue is induced on the head, with as many as three ectopic antennae on each side of the head. Aristae are induced on female and male genital disc derivatives (in 43% of animals). Ectopic antennal tissue is not seen in the genital disc derivatives if hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP or DllScer\UAS.cBa are expressed alone under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1. Ectopic antennal tissue is not seen in the leg if hthScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP is expressed alone under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1, and is seen in less than 1% of animals when DllScer\UAS.cBa alone is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1.
