Detailed Description

The number and size of ommatidia in dmPL35 eye somatic clones is reduced compared to wild-type.

Hemizygous males die as pharate adults of reduced size, with a thin bristle phenotype. Development is delayed compared to wild-type controls.

The wing discs of mutant third instar larvae are reduced in size by approximately 30% relative to wild type, due to a reduction in cell size.

Homozygous clones are on average only approximately 40% of the size of their wild-type twin spot.

Genetic Interactions
Statement

Heterozygosity for pontunspecified in dmPL35 eye somatic clones results in a decrease in the number and size of ommatidia compared to dmPL35 eye somatic clones. Heterozygosity for reptunspecified in dmPL35 eye somatic clones results in a slight decrease in the number and size of ommatidia compared to dmPL35 eye somatic clones. Heterozygosity for reptunspecified and pontunspecified in dmPL35 eye somatic clones results in a decrease in the number and size of ommatidia compared to dmPL35 eye somatic clones in a wild-type background and in reptunspecified or pontunspecified heterozygous backgrounds.

Xenogenetic Interactions

Expression of either Hsap\MYChs.1 or Hsap\MYChs.2 allows a few adult dmPL35 males to survive.

Comments

Re-mobilisation of the transposon causes the lethality phenotype to be lost.

Precise excision of the insertion reverts the lethal phenotype.
