The expression of bamUASp.GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4VP16.nos.UTR results in variably penetrant germ cell loss from the niche; in testes completely lacking a germline, ectopic somatic cyst stem cells can be observed many cell diameters away from the hub, and few differentiated cyst cells.

Scer\GAL4nos.PU-mediated expression of bamScer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP promotes germline stem cell (GSC) differentiation, thereby eliminating all GSCs.

Expression of bamScer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 results in tiny testes with no detectable germ cells. The somatic hub is greatly enlarged in the testes of these males.

Adult ovaries of females expressing bamScer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 contain only a few maturing eggs but no other germline cells. The testes of males expressing bamScer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 are shriveled. Oogenesis is normal in females expressing bamScer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4bam.T:Hsim\VP16.

Expression of bamScer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 results in testes which are dramatically reduced in size, lack early germ cells and contain only mature spermatids.

Scer\GAL4nos.PU-mediated expression of bamScer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP in a tut1/tut3 background results in a tut mutant phenotype.

Expression of bamScer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP under the control of either Scer\GAL4bam.T:Hsim\VP16 or Scer\GAL4vas.2.6 promotes the differentiation of spermatogonia to spermatocytes in DoaDem/DoaHD testes.
