Mobilization of the P{lacW} element, resulting in an intragenic deletion of 855 bases that removes parts of exons 4 and 5 of the CDase gene. The original P{lacW}l(3)j8B9j8B9 insertion site is retained and there is a second insertion within CDase.
CDaseslab-2 embryos appear anatomically and morphologically normal. Although mutants move spontaneously and in response before hatching, movements are less vigorous than in controls. A minority briefly generate peristaltic body contractions sufficient to emerge partly or completely from the egg case. Physiological assays show that hypertonic saline-evoked synaptic vesicle fusion is significantly impaired in CDaseslab-1/CDaseslab-2 embryos.
