ScerGAL4ATP7.PB colocalizes with Crz in interneurons in the larval abdominal neuromere, with sNPF in the hypocerebral ganglion, with Capa in the Va neurons, with Akh in endocrine neurons in the retrocerebral complex, with Ms in larval dorsomedial neurosecretory cells and endocrine neurons in the abdomen and with SIFa in larval dorsomedial neurosecretory cells.
Reporter expression is observed in first instar larvae in the brain, in a segmentally repeated pattern in the PNS, in scattered enteric nervous system cells of the anterior midgut and in mouthparts. Expression is upregulated in the midgut at this stage in response to copper. In the third instar, expression is observed in the CNS (mainly in the ventral nerve cord but not in the optic lobe), in the salivary glands, and in the male gonads. Expression is also observed in the anterior and posterior midguts, hindgut and Malpighian tubules and is strongly upregulated upon exposure to copper. In adults, expression is observed in neurons of the labellum, maxillary palps, third antennal segment, leg, and wing margin as well as in the gut and testis.
