Flies that are debcl^{KO-unspecified} transheterozygous with debcl⁶, debcl²², debcl²³, debcl²⁷, debcl⁵⁹ or debcl⁶¹ are viable, fertile and exhibit a normal lifespan.

At variable penetrance (25-57%), extra scutellar bristles are found on the notum. Other phenotypes observed at lower penetrance include: rotated male genitalia, imperforate vaginas in females, melanotic-like cells in the maxillary palps, and patterning abnormalities of tergites and sternites.

Embryos show a moderate decrease in the number of TUNEL-positive cells.

Steady-state ATP levels (a read-out for respiration), mitochondrial morphology , mitochondrial volume, and mitochondrial density per cell in debcl^{KO-unspecified} mutants are all similar to WT.
