tauKO mutant adults have significantly increased aversive olfactory 24 h memory following spaced, but not massed, training, with no effect on 3 min memory, compared to controls; they have normal naive avoidance of electric shocks, but have a significant failure to habituate to shocks, compared to controls.

tauKO/tauKO flies do not have significantly different climbing ability (locomotion) or lifespan compared to wild type.

There is no detrimental effect on response latency for signal to reach the tergotrochanteral muscle (TTM) or the dorsal longitudinal muscle (DLM) after stimulation of the giant fiber in the fly brain in tauKO/tauKO compared to wild type; in 15 day old mutants there is even a significantly shorter response latency in the TTM compared to wild type, though this effect is not seen in older (34 day old) flies.
