mMaroon1 is a monomeric far-red fluorescent protein with an excitation peak of 609nm and an emission peak of 657nm in vitro. It is an artificial derivative of the naturally occurring fluorescent protein encoded by the Entacmaea quadricolor eqFP578 gene, developed by mutagenesis starting from mNeptune2 (PMID:27798610).
