Reference

A normal number of en and nub expressing md neurons are seen in mutants.

The gnathal lobes are reduced in mutant embryos.

Fat body is slightly reduced. Absence of demonstratable somatic gonadal precursor (SGP) cells.

Strong allele.

Transheterozygotes with Df(3L)E13 or Df(3R)slo8 produce flies with abnormal wings.

Deviations from mitotic synchrony are seen in nuclear cycles 6-9 in en4 mutant embryos.

Third thoracic denticle belt and first abdominal fuse, as do denticle bands A2 and A3, A4 and A5, and A6 and A7. Mutant embryos show T3 fused to A1, A2 fused to A3, A4 fused to A5 and A6 fused to A7.

Defects in even naked cuticle.

Male en4/en3 flies have abnormal genitalia, with a missing genital arch process and claspers, and reduced hypandrium, hypandrial phragma and penis apparatus. Extra genital arch and anal plate bristles are sometimes seen. Female en4/en3 flies generally have extra bristles and pigmentation on the dorsal part of the eighth tergite.

Homozygous clones in the anterior of the wing are normal, while homozygous clones in the posterior part of the wing are abnormal, producing socketed bristles characteristic of the anterior part of the wing. Homozygous embryos have abnormal denticle belts; the number of rows of denticles is reduced and they are disorganised. The denticle belts often appear fused.
