Germline stem cell number (GSC) is significantly reduced in chic11/chic01320 mutant larval testes compared to controls. The number of GSCs is further reduced in newly eclosed adults. Somatic cells move to fill the area adjacent to the hub in the absence of GSCS.
In contrast to wild type larval testes, where the border of the hub in contact with germline stem cells (GSCs) is concave, in chic11 the border appears more rounded.
The oocytes of chic11 mutants fail to accumulate G-actin or form a karyosome, which leads to the arrest of egg chamber development after stages 6-7.
