Flies expressing Myt1GMR.PP have a dose sensitive rough eye phenotype. Mitoses in the second mitotic wave are reduced in number and delayed compared to wild type in third larval instar eye discs. Mitoses ahead of the morphogenetic furrow are unaffected. Ommatidial preclusters in the adult eye appear disorganised. Most ommatidial cell types appear to be present, but the number of photoreceptor cells in each ommatidium is often abnormal, with ommatidia containing too few or too many photoreceptor cells. The regular array of secondary and tertiary pigment cells is severely disrupted and the arrangement and size of the rhabdomeres is often irregular.
