Adulthood-only expression of Phb2^GD8538 under the control of Scer\GAL4^esg.PU leads to a decrease in the number of intestinal progenitors (esg-positive ISCs and EBs) in the adult posterior midgut epithelium; and their progeny covers a smaller proportion of the epithelium in linear tracing assays; there is an increase in the proportion of progenitors in G1. Upon DSS-induced regeneration clones show decreased mitotic index.

Adults expressing Phb2^GD8538 under the control of Scer\GAL4^elav.PLu (in the presence of Dcr-2^Scer\UAS.cDa to increase the efficiency of RNAi) do not show a significant defect in avoidance of noxious temperature (46[o]C) compared to control flies.

Depending on the insertion line used, expression under the control of Scer\GAL4^Mef2.PR can result in viable flies or early larval lethality.
