Component of the augmin complex composed of dgt2, dgt3, dgt4, dgt5, dgt6, msd1, msd5 and wac (PubMed:18443220, PubMed:19369198). The complex interacts directly or indirectly with microtubules and is required for centrosome-independent generation of spindle microtubules (PubMed:18443220). dgt6 interacts with CENP-meta, gamma-tubulin, msps, Ndc80, Nuf2 and tacc (PubMed:19836241).

RNAi screen using dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene results in the failure of γ-tubulin to localize to the spindle, without affecting its localization to the pole, and the formation of an aberrantly long spindle when assayed in S2 cells. This phenotype can be observed when the screen is performed with or without Cdc27 dsRNA.
RNAi screen using dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene results in the production of long spindles with low microtubule density, misaligned chromosomes/kinetochores and mitotic delay when assayed in S2 cells.
