Polytene chromosomes normal.

Description

Deletion, with one breakpoint at the site of the P{lacZ} insertion in kluP212, removing at least three exons.

Imprecise excision of the P{lacZ} element, deleting all or part of the three 3'-most exons of klu.

Premature neuroblast differentiation is not observed in klu212lR51C mutant clones originating from a single type II neuroblast.

Ectopic neuroblasts form in the inner region of the medulla primordium in homozygous mutant clones.

When klu212lR51C mutant MARCM clones are induced 30-48 hours after egg laying (AEL), a reduction of the size of neuroblasts is observed in larval brains.

kluG410/klu212lR51C transheterozygotes show a neuroblast-loss phenotype.

klu212lR51C/klu09036 larval brains show premature loss of neuroblasts.

There is an increase in the number of SELK neurons in klu212lR51C mutant animals.

klu212lR51C/kluG410 adults always lack the anterior supraalar and presutural bristles. The sensory organ precursor cells of both these types of bristles are absent in mutant wing imaginal discs.

klu212lR51C/klu09036 and klu212lR51C/klu10052 larvae show a feeding defect in which food becomes lodged in the pharynx.

Strong phenotype. Homozygous adults show fusions in the tarsal segments, the trochanter is fused to the femur, and the size of the leg segments is reduced. In the case of the first tarsal segment this reduction in size is probably due to loss of the distal region. The number of bristles in the region of the femur is less than normal and the sex comb is missing in males. The number of bristles on the antenna is reduced in klu212lR51C/Df(3L)vin2 flies and the basal cylinder of antennal segment 3 is severely reduced in size. The number of bristles on the proximal costa is severely reduced in klu212lR51C/Df(3L)kluXR19 flies. 70% of these flies lack the presutural bristle. kluG410/klu212lR51C flies lack the anterior sternopleural macrochaete and other surrounding bristles. The number of bristles on the proximal costa is strongly reduced compared to wild-type. The tarsal segments are reduced in size and segments 3-5 are fused together. The tibia is malformed. Activation of kluScer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC by Scer\GAL4klu-G410 in a kluG410/klu212lR51C background leads to complete rescue of the bristle phenotype and partial rescue of the leg phenotype.

99% of hemisegments T2-A1 have duplicated RP2 neurons in homozygous embryos, and duplications are seen in 26% of hemisegments A2-A8.

Homozygous klu212lR51C suppresses the supernumerary neuroblast phenotype seen in erm1/Df(2L)erm2 mutant clones originating from a single type II neuroblast.

54% of groE48/klu212lR51C and 71% of Df(3R)Espl22/klu212lR51C double heterozygotes show loss of the presutural bristle.

klu212lR51C/+ partially suppresses the duplication of the anterior postalar bristle seen in groE48 and Df(3R)Espl22 heterozygotes: only 12% and 28% respectively of the double heterozygous flies show the duplication.

klu212lR51C dominantly suppresses the rough eye phenotype seen in In(1)rst3 flies.

The slight reduction in the number of anterior wing margin bristles seen in hemizygous klu212lR51C or Df(1)ase-1 single mutant flies is strongly enhanced in double mutant klu212lR51C; Df(1)ase-1 flies. In addition, abdominal microchaetae are missing in these double mutant flies.
