Expression of nejΔBHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU results in a reduction in the size of the adult eye, and aberrant axonal targeting of retinal neurons in third instar larvae, as compared to wild type.

Scer\GAL4GMR.PF-mediated expression of nejΔBHQ.Scer\UAS results in a very severe eye phenotype: the external surface of the eye is flattened and reduced in size.

Expression of nejΔBHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in severe roughening of the adult eye and the presence of non-ommatidial bristles in the region of the eye field. The photoreceptors have undergone high levels of retinal degeneration. Expression of nejΔBHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev results in a moderate rough eye phenotype.

Expression of nejΔBHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in adults with eyes which are flattened, reduced in size and covered in small bristles. Many adult ommatidia show a severe reduction in the number of photoreceptor cells and this phenotype is also seen in ommatidial clusters in the larval eye disc. Many ommatidial clusters in the pupal eye disc contain an increased number of accessory cone cells. Expression of nejΔBHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev results in eyes which have almost normal external surfaces, with the only obvious defect being the frequent loss or mispositioning of interommatidial bristles. However, cross sections of these eyes reveal several defects in ommatidial assembly. Firstly, many ommatidia contain two R3 cells (indicating that a putative R4 cell has instead adopted the R3 fate). Secondly, at a lower frequency, ommatidia of opposite chirality from wild type are seen (indicating that the R3 and R4 cells have adopted the opposite cell fates). Thirdly, the R4 cells fails to be specified in some ommatidia. Fourthly, in many ommatidia either the R3 or R4 cell has adopted an R7 cell fate, and in some cases both R3 and R4 cells adopt the R7 fate. Finally, in rare cases the presumptive R7 cell fails to differentiate. The severe rough eye phenotype caused by expression of nejΔBHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF is enhanced if the flies also carry nej3/+.

Statement
Reference

Expression of nejΔBHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH suppresses the no-eye phenotype of soD/+, to the same degree as expression of nejScer\UAS.T:SV5\V5 under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH.

Xenogenetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

Co-expression of nejΔBHQ.Scer\UAS enhances the eye phenotype of adult flies, and enhances the increased cell death and aberrant axonal targeting observed in third instar eye disc of flies expressing Hsap\APPAβ42.Scer\UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU, and results in failure of these flies to eclose.
