sickA384/sickΔ mutant mushroom bodies display short α/β axonal lobes compared with those of controls, although the morphology of the peduncle appears normal. In addition, sickA384/sickΔ mutants display defective ellipsoid body ring structures in each hemisphere of the central brain. A prominent increase in F-actin signal is detected in the core region of the defective α/β axonal lobe compared to controls.

sickA384/sickΔ-L1 mutant mushroom bodies display short α/β axonal lobes compared with those of controls.

sickA384/sickΔ-L2 mutant mushroom bodies display short α/β axonal lobes compared with those of controls.

sickA384/sickΔ-L3 mutant mushroom bodies display short α/β axonal lobes compared with those of controls.

No axonal lobe phenotypes are observed in the mushroom bodies of sickA384/+ mutants.

Expression of tsrScer\UAS.cNa under the control of Scer\GAL4NP7175 significantly suppresses the axon growth phenotype seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickA384/sickΔ mutants.

Expression of tsrS3A.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4NP7175 significantly suppresses the axon growth phenotype seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickA384/sickΔ mutants.

Expression of tsrS3E.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4NP7175 does not significantly suppresses the axon growth phenotype seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickA384/sickΔ mutants.

Expression of sshScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4NP7175 partially suppresses the axon growth phenotype seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickA384/sickΔ mutants.

Expression of sshCS.Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4NP7175 does not significantly suppress the axon growth phenotype seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickA384/sickΔ mutants.

Expression of sshScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 suppresses the axon growth defect and F-actin elevation seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes when LIMK1Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4ey-OK107. This suppression does not occur in a sickΔ/sickA384 mutant background.

Expression of Rac1Y40C.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC suppresses the axon growth defect and F-actin elevation seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes when LIMK1Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4ey-OK107. This suppression does not occur in a sickΔ/sickA384 mutant background.

Expression of sickScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU almost fully rescues the axonal growth defects seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickΔ/sickA384 mutants. The rescued flies exhibit a β lobe fusion phenotype.

Expression of sickScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4ey-OK107 significantly rescues the axonal growth defects seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickΔ/sickA384 mutants.

Expression of sickScer\UAS.cAa under the control of Scer\GAL4NP7175 significantly rescues the axonal growth defects seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickΔ/sickA384 mutants.

Expression of sickScer\UAS.T:Disc\RFP-mCherry under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU almost fully rescues the axonal growth defects seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickΔ/sickA384 mutants.

Expression of sickScer\UAS.T:Disc\RFP-mCherry under the control of Scer\GAL4ey-OK107 significantly rescues the axonal growth defects seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickΔ/sickA384 mutants.

Expression of sickScer\UAS.T:Disc\RFP-mCherry under the control of Scer\GAL4NP7175 significantly rescues the axonal growth defects seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickΔ/sickA384 mutants.

Expression of sickK1881A.Scer\UAS.T:Disc\RFP-mCherry under the control of Scer\GAL4ey-OK107 fails to rescue the axonal growth defects seen in the α/β mushroom body lobes of sickΔ/sickA384 mutants.
