Expression of HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E results a reduction in size of the posterior compartment of the wing disc. In adults, there is a reduction in size of the entire wing, together with additional tissue loss and vein defects in the posterior compartment.

Expression of HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 at 26[o]C results in a slight reduction in the anterior part of the wing pouch of the wing disc. Increased cell death is seen in the wing disc. At the compartment boundary, some apoptotic cells expressing HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa are misplaced posteriorly to the Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1-expression domain and are extruded basally from the wing disc epithelium. In adults there is a loss of the intervein tissue between L3 and L4, loss of tissue (mainly in the anterior region) between veins L2 and L3, loss of part of L3 and loss of the proximal crossvein between veins L3 and L4.

Expression of HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PFa results in a rough eye phenotype.

Flies expressing HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4yolk show normal resistance to infection by the Gram negative bacterium Erwinia carotovora, but are more susceptible to natural infection by the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana and direct injection of either Aspergillus fumigatus or Neurospora crassa spores than controls.

The adult wing defects caused by expression of HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 are partially suppressed by co-expression of NcdsRNA.Scer\UAS.cLa or by the presence of NcI24/+ and are more strongly suppressed by co-expression of NcKK104278.

Co-expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.cHa completely suppresses apoptosis in cells in the wing disc expressing HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1. The adult wing appears broadly disorganised in these animals, although there is recovery of a full-length L3 vein and partial restoration of issue between veins L2 and L3. An expansion of the space between veins L3 and L4 is seen in the double mutant flies, patches of cells seem to be excluded from the wing epithelium and the overall size of the wing is reduced.

Co-expression of either hepNIG.4353R, Traf6GD7146, slprKK100726 or Mkk4GD13804 partially suppresses the wing defects caused by expression of HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1.

Co-expression of either Tak1KK108611 or bskNIG.5680R suppresses the wing defects caused by expression of HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1.

bsk1/+ partially suppresses the wing defects caused by expression of HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1.

Co-expression of either Traf4GD10100, msnKK108948, egrdsRNA.Scer\UAS or wgndsRNA.Scer\UAS does not suppress the wing defects caused by expression of HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1.

Heterozygosity for msn102, msn06946 or Rac1J11 does not suppress the wing defects caused by expression of HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1.

The presence of Rac1J11/+ and Rac2Δ/+ in double heterozygous combination does not suppress the wing defects caused by expression of HIV-1\VpuScer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1.
