In mid-first instar, ScerGAL4^vn-GAL4 is expressed in four cells in the wing disc, which expands by late first instar to a proximodistal stripe. By second instar, the distal cells in that stripe will stop expressing ScerGAL4^vn-GAL4, leaving only the proximal half.
