Ovaries from sesBorg flies exhibit reduced ATP levels compared with ovaries from wild-type flies. Fed sesBorg flies exhibit an increase in degenerating midstage egg chambers.

After amino acid deprivation, degenerating midstage egg chambers from sesBorg flies contain a reduction in the percentage of autolysosomes compared with controls. Non-degenerating midstage egg chambers from starved sesBorg flies also display reduced autophagic flux.

100% of homozygotes are paralysed within 3 minutes at 37oC. In addition, mutant flies paralyse if they are kept at lower temperatures for a longer duration. sesBorg is lethal in combination with Df(1)v-L15 at 25oC. At 35oC, development is slow, escapers are flightless and paralyse at 35o. 90% of the expected number of sesB1/sesBorg flies survive to adulthood. 36% of the expected number of sesB9Ed-5/sesBorg flies survive to adulthood. 56% of the expected number of sesB9Ed-2/sesBorg flies survive to adulthood. The flies show paralysis at 40-41oC. 2% of the expected number of sesBG0386/sesBorg or sesB9Ed-1/sesBorg flies survive to adulthood. 1.6% of the expected number of sesB9Ed-3/sesBorg flies survive to adulthood. 1.2% of the expected number of sesB9Ed-6/sesBorg flies survive to adulthood. As the temperature is raised, the amplitude of all electroretinogram (ERG) components decreases in sesBorg flies; on- and off- transients as well as most of the total light response are abolished at the restrictive temperature. This defect is reversible if the flies are shifted back to the permissive temperature. Mutants show no substantial defect in biogenesis, stability or axonal transport of mitochondria in the motor terminals of the larval neuromuscular junction.

Degenerating midstage egg chambers from nutrient-deprived sesBorg/+; Dcp-1Prev1/Dcp-1Prev1 flies contain persisting nurse cell nuclei and an accumulation of ref(2)P protein.

Ovarioles from fed sesBorg/sesBorg; Dcp-1Prev1/Dcp-1Prev1 flies arrested during mid-oogenesis, and these midstage egg chambers contain condensed and fragmented nurse cell nuclei and reduced ref(2)P levels.

sesBorg lowers the temperature at which 100% of shi2 flies are paralysed in 3 minutes, from 28oC to 26oC. sesBorg lowers the temperature at which 100% of shi4 flies are paralysed in 3 minutes, from 29oC to 27oC. sesBorg lowers the temperature at which 100% of shiBS1 flies are paralysed in 3 minutes, from 32oC to 30oC. sesBorg lowers the temperature at which 100% of shiSHY flies are paralysed in 3 minutes, from 35oC to 33oC. sesBorg lowers the temperature at which 100% of shiCK2 flies are paralysed in 3 minutes, from 35oC to 33oC. 100% of sesBorg ; awdMSM95/awdMSM95 flies are paralysed in 3 minutes at 34oC. 100% of sesBorg shiCK2 ; awdMSM95/awdMSM95 flies are paralysed in 3 minutes at 27oC. The on- and off-transients of the electroretinogram (ERG) are lost at 33oC in sesBorg shiCK2/Y flies. The on- and off-transients of the electroretinogram (ERG) are lost at 27oC in sesBorg shiCK2/Y ; awdMSM95/awdMSM95 flies.

The loss of pigment in the eye phenotype induced by expression of Hsap\BCL2L13Scer\UAS.cNa driven by Scer\GAL4GMR.PS is significantly suppressed by sesBorg/+. sesBorg/+ does not result in significant eye phenotypes in Scer\GAL4GMR.PS>Hsap\BCL2L13ΔTM.Scer\UAS flies.
