Hmu protein is detected with H.P. lectin which binds to individual cells associated with the fat body thought to be hemocytes. In addition strong staining is observed in the gut, namely in the cardia and in the midgut.

For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
Although FBrf0059040 and FBrf0116883 state the possibility that this gene encodes an RNA recognition motif protein, close examination of sequence and genome suggest that RRM results derive from spurious priming in PCR reaction described in those reports.
Hmu cDNA has been cloned and sequenced, and its expression pattern has been analysed.
