vretano
Tudor domain protein involved in regulation of Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) in gonadal tissues thus regulating mobile genetic elements

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

There is only one protein coding transcript and one polypeptide associated with this gene
Interacts with aub and piwi.

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).
Comment: maternally deposited
vret protein is expressed exclusively in the gonads; expression is observed both in ovaries and testes.

Please Note FlyBase no longer curates genomic clone accessions so this list may not be complete
Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.

Identification: from a forward EMS mutagenesis screen for maternally contributed genes on the 3R chromosome.
Displays defects in both the soma and germline during oogenesis. In weak mutants, ovaries display a spindle eggshell phenotype and abnormal karyosome, indicating defects in egg patterning. In strong vret mutants, ovaries display severe defects in the germline stem cells, later cysts and egg chambers, as well as abnormal somatic ovary tissue, indicating that grk is not the only target of vret. In addition, adult females with strong alleles are sterile.

FlyBase curator comment: the insertion in the "f04929" Exelixis line (PBac{WH}HP1cf04929) was originally assigned to the CG4771 gene in FBrf0179797, resulting in the "CG4771f04929" (FBal0161365) allele. However, FBrf0184340 shows that the insertion is actually within HP1c.

"vreteno" is the Bulgarian word for 'wool-spinning spindle', which refers to the eggshell phenotype of the mutants.
'vreteno' means 'spindle' in Bulgarian, and the weak 'vreteno' alleles give a spindle phenotype.
