slowFT is a monomeric fluorescent timer protein that changes its fluorescence from blue to red over time. The blue-to-red chromophore maturation rate depends on temperature. At 37[o]C the maximum of the blue fluorescence is seen at 9.8 hours, while the half-maximum of the red fluorescence is reached at 28 hours. The blue form has an excitation peak of 402nm and an emission peak of 465nm. The red form has an excitation peak of 583nm and an emission peak of 604nm. slowFT was derived by mutagenesis of the mCherry fluorescent protein, containing the additional mutations M18V, S30V, Q69R, F84W and A179V.
