Heterozygotes show loss of wing vein tissue.

Heterozygotes lack several notal macrochaetae.

Heterozygotes show loss of macrochaetae on the notum.

Mutants show a small amount of wing vein truncation mostly at the tip of wing vein L5.

The proneural clusters of the wing disc are generally smaller than wild-type.

Heterozygotes appear wild-type.

Rare escapers show length of microchaetae, macrochaetae and longitudinal wing veins is reduced with respect to that of wild type. Heterozygotes with NAx-16 NAx-71d, NAx-E2, NAx-9 or NAx-1 are lethal with escapers having less severe phenotypes than that of the NAx-M1 escapers. Th lethal phase is earlier than for NAx-M1, imaginal discs are larger than wild type and appear deformed. Rare pharate adults show failures in wing and leg evagination and morphological abnormalities that are never seen for NAx-M1 hemizygotes. The Abruptex phenotype of heteroallelic combinations with viable Abruptex alleles is reduced at 29oC as compared to 25oC.

Heterozygotes have larger than normal wings and incomplete vein differentiation, specially in veins IV and V. Mitotic clones can appear anywhere in the wing. Elimination of the vein occurs only when a clone occupying vein territories is present in the dorsal and ventral surfaces. Clones along the wing margin do not cause nicks but are associated with loss of sensory elements in the anterior wing margin and with the differentiation of ectopic wing vein bristles in distal regions of the wing close to the margin.

Phenotypes have topographic pattern specificities. Males have a homogeneous decrease in chaetae number.

Escapers lack almost all macrochaetae and microchaetae. Homozygous clones produced during the last stages of the formation of the adult sensory organs do not enter the sensory organ mother cell pathway.

The reduction in wing area seen in flies expressing pzgdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E is suppressed by NAx-M1/+.

One copy of NAx-M1 enhances the small eye phenotype of flies in which fngScer\UAS.cKa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PH.

The loss of macrochaetae on the notum seen in NAx-M1/+ flies is not rescued by ed1X5/edslH8.

Expression of Hsap\PTOV1Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4nub.PU suppresses the distal vein L5 loss and increase in wing size seen in N55e11 mutant flies. There is a significant increase in the number of notches per wing compared with N55e11 alone.

Co-expression of PsnScer\UAS.cYa, Hsap\PRDX1Scer\UAS.cWa, and Hsap\PRDX2Scer\UAS.cWa with Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 in flies carrying NAx-M1 only results in residual thickening of the L3 and L5 wing veins, which is significantly less severe than that observed in response to expression of PsnScer\UAS.cYa, Hsap\PRDX1Scer\UAS.cWa, and Hsap\PRDX2Scer\UAS.cWa in a wild-type background.

The ectopic scutellar macrochaetae of flies co-expressing PsnScer\UAS.cYa, Hsap\PRDX1Scer\UAS.cWa, and Hsap\PRDX2Scer\UAS.cWa under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 is nearly completely suppressed by NAx-M1.
