Symbol changed from 'Hop' to 'Stip1' (as of FB2017_04) to reduce confusion with the different gene 'hop' (hopscotch, FBgn0004864). The symbol of 'Hop' (Hsp70/Hsp90 organizing protein) was changed because: (i) it has a smaller associated literature than 'hop' (hopscotch); (ii) it was named/characterized subsequently to 'hop' (hopscotch) (2005/FBrf0184053 vs 1986/FBrf0044150); and (iii) it was originally named (FBrf0184053) based on its homology to the human gene, which now has the symbol 'STIP1' (stress induced phosphoprotein 1) and is also the symbol used for the orthologous gene in other vertebrates.
