Gene Group (FlyBase)
C2H2 ZINC FINGER TRANSCRIPTION FACTORS -
Zinc finger C2H2 transcription factors are sequence-specific DNA binding proteins that regulate transcription. They possess DNA-binding domains that are formed from repeated Cys2His2 zinc finger motifs. (Adapted from PMID:1835093, FBrf0220103 and FBrf0155739).
Phenotypic Description (Red Book; Lindsley and Zimm 1992)
l(3)DTS3
Heterozygous larvae raised at 29 arrested at the third lar- val instar for up to two weeks; exhibit grossly hypertrophied ring glands due to the growth of the prothoracic gland cells. The nuclei possess polytene chromosomes which are as large as those of salivary gland nuclei; their banding pattern is simi- lar but not identical to that of salivary gland polytene chro- mosomes, but the puffing patterns are quite different. Salivary gland chromosomes also hypertrophy and lack the nor- mal ecdysone-induced puffs. Chromosomes in both tissues respond to adminstration of ecdysone by producing the charac- teristic set of puffs (Holden and Ashburner, 1978, Chromosoma 68: 205-27). At 29 imaginal discs unable to evert in situ; however evert normally if cultured in the presence of ecdys- terone or in wild-type hosts. Implantation of a single wild- type ring gland rescues lethality (Holden, Walker, Maroy, Wat- son, White, and Gausz, 1986, Dev. Genet. 6: 153-62).

Structure
Protein 3D structure   (Predicted by AlphaFold)   (AlphaFold entry A0A0B4K7S6)

If you don't see a structure in the viewer, refresh your browser.
Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

Testis-specificity index

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.

    cDNA clones, fully sequenced
    BDGP DGC clones
    Other clones
Drosophila Genomics Resource Center cDNA clones

For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.

mld corresponds to the first two exons of CG33343 and exons two to five of CG13620.

RNAi generated by PCR using primers directed to this gene causes a cell growth and viability phenotype when assayed in Kc167 and S2R+ cells.

New annotation (CG31312) in release 3 of the genome annotation.

        Additional comments

Annotations CG33343, CG31312 and CG13620 merged as CG34100 (which corresponds to mld) in release 5.1 of the genome annotation.

FlyBase curator comment: The symbol "CG9469" has been used erroneously in FlyBase to name 2 separate annotations (one on chromosome arm 2R, the other on arm 3R) in different releases of the genome annotation. The two annotations have been renamed in release 3.2 to avoid confusion; they are CG33352 (on 2R) and CG33343 (on 3R). CG33352 was labelled "CG9469" in releases 1 and 2 and was not annotated in releases 3.0 and 3.1 of the genome annotation. CG33343 was a new annotation in release 3.0 of the genome annotation and was labelled "CG9469" in releases 3.0 and 3.1.
