Mutants show a significant number of ectopic sex combs on the second leg.

Mutant adults show transformation of the second and third leg to first leg.

100% of heterozygous males have sex comb teeth on the second and/or third leg. Expressivity of the phenotype is 23%.

Heterozygous males have a reduced number of sex comb teeth on the first leg. Heterozygous males have an average of 3.2 ectopic sex comb teeth per second leg. Heterozygous males have an average of 1.4 ectopic sex comb teeth per third leg. ScrMsc/Df(3R)Scr ; Dp(3;Y)77ab males have an average of 0.2 ectopic sex comb teeth per second leg. ScrMsc/Df(3R)Scr ; Dp(3;Y)77ab males have an average of 0.1 ectopic sex comb teeth per third leg. ScrMsc/Scr4 ; Dp(3;Y)77ab males have an average of 0.3 ectopic sex comb teeth per second leg. ScrMsc/Scr4 ; Dp(3;Y)77ab males have an average of 0.1 ectopic sex comb teeth per third leg. ScrMsc/ScrWrv4 males have no ectopic sex comb teeth on the second legs. ScrMsc/ScrWrv4 males have no ectopic sex comb teeth on the third legs.

Dominant allele.

Heterozygotes exhibit derepression of Scr in the second and third imaginal discs causes transformation to first leg identities. In the presence of two brm+ alleles 100% of flies show some transformation, only 10% in brm2 heterozygotes.

Extra sex combs present an all six legs of males.

Haplo-abnormal phenotype is suppressed by a duplication carrying Scr.

Phenotype is enhanced by ph-d2.

Heterozygous males have extra sex combs on the second legs. The penetrance of this phenotype is higher at 29oC than at 22oC.

Partial transformation of second and third legs into first legs.

Sex comb teeth are produced on the basitarsus of all six legs (transformation of meso- and metathoracic into prothoracic legs). Reduction in the number of sex comb teeth present on the prothoracic leg.

Transformation of prothoracic leg to mesothoracic leg identity and transformation of meso- and metathoracic leg to prothoracic leg identity.

Males display reduced sex comb phenotype, indicating a transformation of meso- and metathoracic leg to prothoracic leg identity.

Compared to ScrMsc mutants alone, significantly fewer sex combs form on the second leg of ScrMsc, Df(3R)P14/+ flies or ScrMsc, Df(3R)Exel6178/+ flies.

ScrMsc flies that are also heterozygous for Df(3R)BSC509, Df(3R)PP2A-B'-CG7208, PP2A-B'Δ or other deletions removing genes encoding other PP2A regulatory subunits do not have fewer sex combs on the second leg than ScrMsc mutants alone.

The average number of ectopic sex comb teeth on the second and third legs in ScrMsc heterozygous males is not affected if they are also carrying z1 or za.

The penetrance of the ScrMsc/+ extra sex comb phenotype is strongly reduced by M(3)801 at 29oC but not at 22oC. The penetrance of the phenotype is also reduced by M(2)56Funspecified or Df(3L)M(3)LS4.
