lolalk02512/lolal1122, lolalk02512/lolal1722 and lolalk02512/Df(2R)Pcl11B transheterozygotes display lethality or near lethality, and lolalk02512/lolalG9603 transheterozygotes exhibit semi-lethality, as compared to controls, irrespective of the gender of the parental genotype; lolalk02512/lolal1122 and lolalk02512/lolal1722 transheterozygotes mainly die during the pupal stage.
The progeny from lolalk02512/+ fathers and either lolal1122/+ or Df(2R)Pcl11B/+ mothers exhibit embryo ventralization in a small proportion of cases, as compared to controls.
The developing salivary glands in lolalk02512 mutant animals fail to turn and migrate properly. In addition, the dorsal trunks of the trachea exhibit only partial extension at stage 14, but relatively normal extension of dorsal and visceral branches occurs.
lolalk02512 mutants exhibit cuticular defects. The position of the first abdominal denticle belt is moved posteriorly, indicating head involution defects associated with altered mouth hooks. lolalk02512 mutants exhibit dorsal closure defects, to varying degrees of severity, from a hole in the dorsal cuticle to the absence of closure. lolalk02512 embryos lacking both maternal and zygotic contribution of lolal display cuticular defects compared to the wild-type. Embryos show incomplete head involution with many exhibiting defects in dorsal closure. In contrast, embryos derived from lolalk02512/lolalk02512;Scer\GAL4da.G32, lolalScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP/+ rescued females crossed to wild-type males hatch and do not display cuticular defects. Heteroallelic lolal311a/lolalk02512 flies have wild-type wings. lolalΔ11π mutants, in combination with lolalk02512 exhibit ectopic sex comb teeth on meso- or metathoracic legs in about one-fifth of the male escapers.
Lethality occurs during third instar larval or pupal stages. Mutants do not show any visible disc abnormalities.

The progeny from lolalk02512/+ mothers and dpphr4/+ fathers present both embryo ventralization in less than half of cases and near lethality, as compared to controls; the progeny from lolalk02512/+ mothers and either dpphr27/+, dpphr56/+ or dppe87/+ fathers exhibit lethality, semi-lethality and increased mortality, respectively, as compared to controls.
lolalk02512 mutants show a higher proportion of salivary gland defects in combination with rib1/+. In these animals the salivary glands fail to turn and migrate properly. However, tracheal dorsal trunk defects are not enhanced in these animals at stage 14.
Adding at least one copy of the TrlHsp83.GAGA-519 or Hsp83GAGA581 transgenes allows the recovery of a much higher frequency of homozygous Trl13C escapers that are also heterozygous for lolalk02512 (up to approximately 80% when four copies of the transgene are added).
lolalk02512 enhances the ph-p410 esc-like phenotype, consisting of homeotic transformation of mesothoracic or metathoracic legs towards prothoracic legs due to the deregulation of Scr. Mutants heterozygous for lolalk02512, when also heterozygous for ph-p410, Pc16, Pc1, Pc3 or Pc15, exhibit a contrabithorax phenotype, which is a wing-to-haltere transformation due to ectopic expression of Ubx in the posterior part of the wing disc, often resulting in curvature of the wing. This phenotype is further enhanced in the viable lolalk02512/lolal311a heteroallelic combinations, when also heterozygous for ph-p410, Pc16, Pc1, Pc3 or Pc15. lolalk02512 ; Trl13C heterozygous flies are viable and do not show any visible phenotype. Approximately 4% of lolalk02512/+; Trl13C/Trl13C flies hatch. Adding at least one copy of the Hsp83GAGA519 or Hsp83GAGA581 transgenes allows the recovery of a much higher frequency of homozygous Trl13C escapers that are also heterozygous for lolalk02512 (up to approximately 80% when four copies of the transgene are added). Double heterozygous lolalk02512 Ubx130 flies do not show significant increase in the expressivity of the Ubx phenotype. lolalk02512/+; Trl13C/Ubx130 flies display a higher frequency (18%) of strong haltere-to-wing transformations compared to Trl13C/Ubx130 siblings (6.3%). This increased transformation is often accompanied by a notal transformation.
The addition of lolalk02512/+ to homozygous ph-p410 animals shows a partial homeotic transformation of A4 to A5, A5 to A6, and A6 to A7. There is a strong reduction of the size of the 6th tergite. Sex combs are seen on the second and third legs. The addition of lolalk02512/+ to heterozygous AsxXF23 animals shows a partial homeotic transformation of A6 to A5 in the abdomen. The addition of lolalk02512/+ to heterozygous Pc1 animals produces crumbled wings with defective margin. The addition of lolalk02512/+ to heterozygous mor1 animals produces rough eyes. trgunspecified/+, lolalk02512/+ animals show development of a small additional tergite, indicating a transformation of A7 to A6. Trl13C/+, lolalk02512/+ animals show no enhancement or suppression of the lolalk02512 phenotype. The addition of heterozygous osaunspecified, trxunspecified, ash1B1, Psc1 or ScmR5-13 to lolalk02512/+ animals shows enhancement or suppression.

Addition of lolal+tBB, lolalScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG or lolalScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 where necessary, to ph-p410, lolalk02512 double mutants results in rescue of the enhancement of the ph-p410 esc-like phenotype, with a reduction in the number of homeotic transformations of mesothoracic or metathoracic legs towards prothoracic legs and the mean number of sex comb teeth to a level similar to that in the double mutant ph-p410, lolalk02512.
