The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
Identification: Enhancer trap expression pattern survey for loci expressed in the ring gland.
Mutant alleles show formation of melanotic pseudotumors.

Previous genome annotation had assigned the 'dappled' ('dpld') complementation group to CG1624 (now CG42396, 'wech') based on the position of the k08815 insertion, which does not complement one of the original 'dpld' insertional alleles, k14202. However, analysis of flanking sequence of both the original 'dpld' insertional alleles, k14202 and k09716, indicates they map to the 5' UTR of CG2140/'Cyt-b5'. Re-analysis of the flanking sequences of k08815 indicates that this insertion is accompanied by a large deletion, thereby explaining the discrepancy and the original error. Thus, the 'dappled' complementation group is correctly identified as CG2140/'Cyt-b5'.
The "dpld, dappled" complementation group does not correspond to CG1624.
Source for merge of Cyt-b5 BcDNA:RE66521 was a shared cDNA ( date:030728 ).
"l(2)k00107" probably corresponds to "Cyt-b5"; the P{lacW} insertion in the "l(2)k00107k00107" allele maps 36bp upstream of the 5' end of the CT6982 transcript of "Cyt-b5".

FlyBase curator comment: the "dpld" complementation group was previously associated with the CG1624 annotation in FlyBase, due to flanking sequence from the "k08815" line mapping within the CG1624 transcription unit and the fact that the "k08815" line fails to complement the "dappled" alleles "dpld[k09716]" and "dpld[k14202]" (both of these alleles and the "k08815" line show the melanotic tumour phenotype for which the "dappled" complementation group was named). However, FBrf0204992 indicates that CG1624 does not correspond to the "dpld" complementation group. The information corresponding to the CG1624 annotation has thus been split out from the information corresponding to the "dappled" complementation group in FlyBase. The CG1624 annotation has been renamed CG42396 to prevent confusion. Due to the previous error in FlyBase, the symbol "dpld" and the name "dappled" have been used in the literature for both the complementation group that shows the "dappled" melanotic tumour phenotype and also for the CG1624 annotation. The source for the previous confusion is probably the "k08815" line. FBrf0214429 shows that the gene mutated in the "dappled" alleles dpld[k09716] and dpld[k14202] is the Cyt-b5 gene. The paper also shows that the "k08815" line contains a deficiency (Df(2R)k08815) as well as the P{lacW}wechk08815 insertion within the CG1624 transcription unit. This deficiency removes the Cyt-b5 gene, thus explaining why the "k08815" line fails to complement the "dappled" alleles.
